Christmas Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony

Congratulations to the Sax Quartet who performed last night, Dec. 13th at the K-town corner. The Sax Quartet made up of: Alicia Silliker, Kelsey Champion, Mairead Murphy, and Kathleen Murphy bared the chilly temperatures, freezing sax keys, and limited lighting to perform Christmas carols for the crowd that attended. Well done ladies.

Congratulations to the Senior Concert, Senior Jazz, Sax Quartet, singers and performers on a wonderful Christmas Variety Show. Special thanks to the singing group "Arioso" for making the time to come out and celebrate this wonderful event. Members of Arioso are: Angela Profit, Juliana Elsinga, Heather Coulson, Claire Caseley Smith,Maureen Brennan(singer, flute, recorder), Jennifer MacDonald(piano accompanist)

"Arioso" will be performing next at the Kensington Anglican Church on Sunday,
Dec. 13th at 11am. Anglican Church is located on Victoria Rd. E. up from the corner towards the schools.

KISH Sax Quartet will be performing next at the Kensington Memorial Christmas Tree Lighting on Sunday, Dec. 13th at 7pm. The tree lighting ceremony will be held at the corner in Kensington across from the Post Office and Petro Canada gas station.

Christmas Concert

Tomorrow, Thursday, Dec. 10th is the Annual Christmas Variety Concert. Senior Band students are asked to be at the school by 5:30pm dressed in full uniform. There will not be time to get dressed here at school. So, come to school in your uniform. Jazz band students don't forget your jazz vest.

All band students are to have black dress shoes and black socks. No black jeans.

For parents, I am looking for parent volunteers to supervise in the music room while the concert is going on.

Bagging Groceries - Superstore and Save Easy

The signups for Grocery Bagging can be done in the Music Room. There are three times a Senior Band student can sign up for. The following is the list of times available:

Sunday, December 20th - Bagging of Groceries at the Summerside Superstore from
12noon until 8pm.

Wednesday, December 23rd - Bagging of Groceries at the Kensington Save Easy from
5pm until 10pm

Thursday, December 24th - Bagging of Groceries at the Kensington Save Easy from
10am until 4pm.

Parent volunteers are needed as well at each of the grocery bagging times.

Thursday, Dec. 10th - KISH Annual Christmas Variety Concert - Senior Concert and Jazz Bands performing in it. Students are to be at the school in the evening by 5:30pm. for a rehearsal on stage. All Senior Band students are to be at this rehearsal.
Friday, Dec. 11th - early morning Sax Quintet practise
Sunday, Dec. 13th - Sax Quintet performing at the Christmas tree lighting at the corner in Kensington. Students are asked to come to the corner for 6:20pm.

*** Looking for parent volunteers to help out with the Senior Band back stage at the concert. If you can help out, contact Ms. Profit at the school or by e-mail. There is a dress rehearsal during the day on Wednesday for the KISH school community. Could use some parent volunteers for this dress rehearsal also.

KISH Annual Christmas Variety Show 2009

On Thursday, December 10th, the Senior Concert, Jazz, and Sax Quintet will be performing at the Christmas Variety Concert. The show starts at 7pm. Details to follow.

East Prince Family of Schools Christmas Concert 2009

Congratulations to all Senior Concert and Jazz Band members on your performance last night at Three Oaks Senior High. Well done.

Christmas Wreath Deliveries today, Wednesday, Dec. 2nd

The Christmas Wreaths have arrived and will be sorted and bagged for delivery during the day today. All band students who have sold wreaths are to come down during lunch or after school. Pickups for deliveries can be done until 4:30pm.

Many thanks to the parent and student volunteers who have helped out with this fundraiser.

A big thank you to the KISH staff who support band students in their various fundraisers, concerts, and for allowing them to miss a class or two for Band commitments.

Merry Christmas to all wreath customers, staff, students, and to all involved.

This week in Senior Band December 1st to 3rd

Monday, November -> Professional Day for teachers. No Classes
Tuesday, December 1st -> Early morning Senior Concert Band rehearsal. Last 15 minutes as quick run through of Senior Jazz pieces
Tuesday, December 1st 2:35 - 3:30 -> after school rehearsal for Sax Quintet
Tuesday, December 1st -> East Prince Family of Schools Christmas Concert at Three Oaks Senior High(TOSH). Students will travel together on a bus that will arrive at KISH for 5:50pm. Concert starts at TOSH at 7pm. The concert will last for about 2 hours. Bus should arrive back to KISH after 9pm.
Wednesday, December 2nd -> Early morning Senior Concert Band rehearsal
Thursday, December 3rd -> No early morning Senior Jazz Band rehearsal
Thursday, December 3rd -> There is a Sax Quintet rehearsal after school
Friday, December 4th -> Professional Day for teachers. No Classes

Uniforms

Senior Concert and Jazz Band students have been fitted with a uniform. The cost of the uniform this year is: $50 for Concert Band members and $60 for Jazz Band members. When students return all parts of the uniform at the end of the year, they will received $20 for Concert Band members and $30 for Concert/Jazz Band members. Shelley McKenna is in charge of the uniforms. The student representatives for uniforms are: Lyndsay Tuplin and Samantha MacKay.

Christmas Craft Fair 2009

Plans are under way for the 2009 KISH Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday, November 28th. All Senior Concert and Jazz Band members are asked to sign up in the Music Room for a time to help out with the Craft Fair.

Any parents who can help out with the Christmas Craft Fair can contact Heather Tuplin or any of the BPA Executive members.

November and December important information

Senior Band Schedule for November:
1. First week of November - Band Wreath Sales fund raiser

2. Tuesday, November 10th - Remembrance Day Service at school in the Gym in the morning. Senior Concert Band to perform.

3. Wednesday, November 11th - Remembrance Day Service at the Cenotaph in Kensington. Saxophone Quintet (grades 11& 12's) to the Cenotaph by 9:30am.

4. Friday, November 20th - First installment of $100 to be made into the office. This payment of $100 is non-refundable and shows commitment to the band trip.

5. Monday, November 23rd - Wreath Orders are due in the office.

6. Friday and Saturday, November 27th and 28th KISH Christmas CRAFT FAIR -Friday 2:30-4pm Cafeteria setup, Friday 3pm-8pm vendor setup, Saturday 9am-4pm

7. November 27-29th Senior Honours Band Weekend. The weekend starts 1pm on Friday, November 27th in Ch’town at Colonel Gray and goes all day Saturday and
Sunday. Concert at 2pm on Sunday, November 29th at the Dr. Steele Recital Hall. All are welcome to attend this free concert. This year KISH is sending 5 Senior students to participate in the weekend.

Important dates in December (continued):

1. Tuesday, December 1st "East Prince Family of Schools Christmas Concert"- bus arrives at KISH by 6pm, Concert starts at Three Oaks at 7pm. Senior Concert and Jazz Bands to perform.

2. Wednesday, December 2nd is the delivery date for the Wreaths. Students are to pick them up in the Industrial Arts room.

3. Thursday, December 10th "KISH Christmas Variety Concert" - concerts during school, evening concert at 7pm. Groups to perform TBA.

4. Sunday, December 13th "Memorial Christmas Tree Lighting" - setup for concert at the corner(at the big Christmas Tree) 6:30pm. Group to perform TBA.

5. Sunday, December 20th Bagging of Groceries at the Superstore. Hours of bagging TBA. All Senior Concert and Jazz Band performers will be needed to signup.

6. Thursday, December 24th Bagging of Groceries at the Save Easy. Only 18 spots open for this bagging. Hours of bagging TBA.
